Munias are small (10 to 12 cm) finch-like binla from the family Estrildidae. Around 20 species can be found in Southeast Asia. 

They inhabit open country and forest edges, and are particularly conspicuous in extensive areas of grassland. Munias are generally found in small flocks of as many as 100 birds.

Induvisuals communicate with calls that include a short whistle, variations of kitty-kitty-kitty, and a sharp chipping alarm note. 

Scaly-breasted mania clutches usually ontain 4 to 6 eggs. but can contain up to 10. Both sexes build the nest and incubate the eggs, which hatch in 10 to 16 days.
